Small Happinesses of the Week

Small Happinesses of the Week // Run. Crave. Conquer. blog

Some weeks just pass by at snail pace… this was one of those. On slow weekdays, when Friday night seems so far away, it’s the weird little triggers of joy that give me perspective and keep me smiling. Like the smell of squash roasting in the oven, or my cat purring like a train on his hand-me-down pillow bed. Because the work week is officially over—I made it, hooray!—I’m linking up to Friday Favorites at Life in Leggings and sharing a handful of small but delightful things that got me through it.

1. Fall Running

After about a week out of my running shoes post-Chicago Marathon, I finally laced up again this week. Few things in this world make me feel more content than running on a crisp autumn evening. The golden sun makes the changing leaves glow with warmth, and I can’t help but stop to take pictures like this. Not to mention that perfect weather: 60s and sunny, hallelujah!

2. Sunny Day Playlists

I discovered this playlist on Spotify a while ago, but it really hit the spot during that perfect autumn run this week. I love the mix of old (The Beach Boys and Michael Jackson) and new (Passion Pit and Walk the Moon). And anyone who knows me also knows how much I love Rich Girl by Hall & Oates, so it’s an all-around win. Give it a listen, and I promise and you’ll be grinning, too.

3. Coffee

Excuse the fuzzy photo, but how perfect is this blend? Coffee—at least two cups of it—is a daily necessity for me if I want to function normally, but the appropriate name of this week’s brew gave me a jolt of happiness with my caffeine. It’s sold by a great coffee co-op based in Madison, Wisconsin.

4. Back to the future yoga

In honor of Back to the Future day, my yoga instructor taught a hoverboard-inspired vinyasa flow class. It was goofy and challenging and just made me feel good—and grounded in the present.

5. easy, Healthy Lunch

I grabbed ingredients at the store to make this Chopped Thai Salad from a blog called The Wicked Noodle. The combo of crunchy cabbage and kale, spicy coconut-curry dressing and sweet mango was delicious. Bonus: The recipe was big enough to supply all my lunches this week.

Your turn! What happy little things got you through this week?
